Confusing Imperatives and an Idiom with Amelia Posters
When giving directions, we often use imperatives. The problem with some imperatives is that English language learners do not immediately understand them. It is the misunderstanding of imperatives, idioms, and other vocabulary that often lends humor to the Amelia Bedelia books. My English language learners, particularly my older students, enjoy reading these books. They are short and easy to read, and the pictures help them understand unfamiliar vocabulary. My ELLs also often identify with Amelia
