Students will create the water cycle in a bag in groups. Worksheet is broken up into step by steps so that each child can participate in the project. After the students create the water cycle in bag, there are some questions for them to answer such as what do they think will happen to the water in the bag and what happened to the water in the bag after a few hours. Also I will be listing a PowerPoint with visuals for a step by step of what the students will need to do!
Rock Hunts are fantastic in the younger grades-they are always fascinated by rocks! If it is possible, go outside to search for rocks.
Students then spend time observing thier rocks looking at characteristics like: harndess, size, grainy, texture, color, etc. Students create a book of their rock observations they can share or use to compare different rocks!

This is an introduction to the owl pellet unit. Students choose from pictures to determine what a Barn owl eats. It gets students thinking about what they might find in the pellet before starting- and then lets them evaluate their choices after taking apart the pellet! This is a SUPER way to start since most younger kids have NO IDEA what barn owls eat!
Use this butterfly observation journal to record the different stages of the butterfly life cycle through pictures and writing. Students draw, write, or use a combination to describe what they observe. Students then decide what stage the butterfly is in. They keep track of the days that pass and how the caterpillar changes. You can use this every few days so they understand the timeline of the life cycle.
