If we classify animals as things, we’re perpetuating the idea that they’re inanimate objects, no different from the notebooks and pencils on your students’ desks. Of course, notebooks and pencils don’t suffer or die if they’re neglected, forgotten,

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

TeachKind, PETA’s humane education division, is made up of former classroom teachers from a wide range of disciplines and grade levels. This allows us to work with a variety of educators from across the country and throughout the field who feel at ease knowing that we have experience in the classroom. To learn more about the TeachKind staff, visit PETA.org/TeachKind/About.

MY TEACHING STYLE

TeachKind’s educational materials feed two birds with one scone—they engage and motivate students academically while fostering their compassion for others, including their peers and animals. We know that educators have the power to plant seeds that can grow into a passion for helping others, so we make humane education easy. We hope that with TeachKind, you’ll find what you need to bring animal rights into your school!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

TeachKind has had the pleasure of working with thousands of teachers and school staff across the country to help them incorporate humane education into their lesson plans, start animal rights clubs, replace animal dissection with humane methods, get healthy vegan options in their cafeterias, and more. You may have seen us at a number of national education conferences, such as those of the National School Boards Association and the National Science Teaching Association, or on Discovery Education—or perhaps you’re familiar with our animal-friendly idioms, such as “feed a fed horse” and “more than one way to peel a potato,” which went viral in 2018!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

For two decades, our team of experienced former classroom teachers has been supporting schools, educators, and parents in their efforts to promote compassion for animals—through free lessons, virtual classroom presentations, classroom materials, advice, online resources, and more.
