TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught for the past 17 years in a variety of educational environments including public high school and middle school, private tutoring, and most recently, in a homeschool co-op. My primary focus is in Biology, Anatomy and Environmental Science, but I have also taught Earth Science, Physical Science, and middle school Life Science. Find science teaching tips, fun science news, and more at my blog: https://www.suburbanscience.com/blog

MY TEACHING STYLE

I strongly encourage inquiry and higher-order thinking skills in my classes. I strive for students to explore concepts on their own with some teacher guidance. I have used the flipped classroom concept for several years when teaching homeschoolers, so many of my resources work well for that environment. The flipped classroom allows students to learn introductory concepts at home through videos, PowerPoints, and web-quests, then solidify those concepts through application during labs and activities within the classroom. This practice maximizes classroom time for exploration and student collaboration.
