TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I seriously love teaching. I am currently a middle school and upper elementary teacher in Southern Colorado.

During my short teaching career (5 years) I have never stayed in one place long.

I taught fifth grade at a charter school, with a very flexible curriculum, for three years. I spent one short and sweet year teaching sixth graders at a STEM Magnet school. Now, I am currently in my 2nd year at a charter school teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA.

Each of these experiences has greatly inspired my teaching resources.

I LOVE teaching upper elementary and middle school grades a ridiculous amount. I seriously think 5th-8th graders are the bomb.com.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am always trying to use a constructivism approach to teaching so that all students can construct their own knowledge.

I also love using middle grade novels for teaching reading to help build lifelong readers, simply because reading is awesome. This has been the inspiration for my reading units. I love using the Socratic Seminar to see my students grow in their reading, writing, and discussions.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Teaching 5th-8th grade is a pretty awesome honor.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Colorado State University-Pueblo; Bachelors of Science in Education-Emphasis in Science,

Fort Hays State University Masters in Education-Reading Specialist

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have lived in Colorado my whole life, but I wouldn't call myself an outdoorsy girl. I like running on a treadmill with a TV and air-conditioning.... but I do love the Colorado mountains, even if I don't always have the urge to climb up them :).

I also love The Golden Girls, basketball, books, cooking, and teaching middle schoolers #middleschoolersarethebestschoolers :).

I am obsessed with all things Harry Potter, Starbucks, and Target.
