TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Mica Drummond is a certified dyslexia tutor and a mom of children with dyslexia and ADHD. She advocates for dyslexia and hosts workshops for professional development and informational talks for teachers and parents in preschools. Before discovering her passion for helping struggling readers, she worked as a registered nurse and later joined her family-owned business as the lead designer.

MY TEACHING STYLE

As a dyslexia tutor, most of her students came to her feeling defeated and hating to read. She was determined to make her Orton-Gillingham-based lessons more engaging with visual aides, greater critical thinking with creative spelling strategies, adding interest by telling the story of English language origins and incorporating etymology in the upper levels. However, she also knew her students needed to progress in nearly every lesson to feel accomplished. Mica believes having a can-do attitude is as essential as learning from a well-structured literacy program to foster the student's self-esteem and attain reading success.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am honored to have received many "You Are the Best Teacher I've Ever Had!" awards from my students.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Mica Drummond attained her certification from the International Multi-Sensory Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and has earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a registered nursing certification.
