TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching 28 years, most of this in upper elementary and middle school language arts and social studies. I specialize in differentiating student assignments. Prior to my current sixth grade position, I taught third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm a hands-on kind of teacher. Currently, I teach an integrated resource core combining language arts and social studies. I typically have ten students with IEP goals included in my sixth grade class of 25-30. Most of my plans allow for modifications depending on learning styles, IEP goals, and/or the needs of all learners. I combine objectives, and many of my units integrate reading, writing, and social studies.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received a degree in sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Before I decided to become a teacher, I worked for five years as a full-time instructional aide in junior high classrooms. My multiple subjects teaching credential is from Humboldt State University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I consider teaching to be an art. I love the creativity of collaborating with colleagues to create lessons and discuss strategies. There's a thrill involved in honing the craft of teaching. I was also a bouncer for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I think this may help in the classroom. :) Thanks to Laine from A Little Peace of Africa for the logo and banner.
