TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 5th year teaching Grade 6 French Immersion. Up until this year, I have always taught a split grade (Grade 5/6). Being a Junior French Immersion class, half of my instructional day is spent in French and the other half in English. I teach Math and Social Studies in French, while Science is taught in English.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have attended many workshops on differentiated instruction, numeracy and literacy. My school is very effective in keeping us up to date with new teaching styles and expectations. In my class, I am always emphasising our learning goals and the success criteria students must follow to be successful in their unit of study. When students complete projects or a novel study, I like to give them a Tic-Tac-Toe choice board. This method of differentiation allows students to choose three different project or assignment ideas that they feel most comfortable with. All of the projects touch on the same expectation. The only thing that differs is the way the student demonstrates his or her learning. Around my class, I post various word walls that students can use throughout the day, such as the Math wall. Students always use this is as a reference if they are not sure about the meaning of a word. A French and English Math word wall can be found in my store. Most importantly, I form a strong connection with my students. A connection where students feel that they can relate to me and feel welcome in the classroom. One of the ways I demonstrate this aspect of inclusiveness is through the Tribes program. The Tribes program goes by four agreements: Mutual Respect, Attentive Listening, The Right-to-Pass and Appreciation. Sometimes, our teaching style will differ from year to year all depending on the group we have, but the connection and environment you aim to create in the classroom will remain the same. If you are interested in seeing the type of work that goes with this style of teaching, please visit my store for French or English word walls, Reading and Writing posters, assessments for various subjects and student packages.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have received many "Best teacher" cards from my parents and students...it may not be a gold plated trophy, but it sounds like an award to me ;)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I completed an Honours Specialization in Psychology and a Major in French Studies. I completed my Bachelor of Education degree concurrently with my undergraduate degree. The Concurrent Education program was a three year program. It was a great way to build as much teaching experience as possible coming out of teacher's college.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In my spare time I love crafts and DIY home projects. I enjoy reading magazines and looking for ideas and recipes that I can use in my home, classroom or kitchen. I love playing and coaching sports, especially Soccer, Softball and Badminton. I love travelling and cruising. Now I can also add that I enjoy creating new products for TPT and playing around with Microsoft Word.
