TEACHING EXPERIENCE

As a professional and a family member of someone on the spectrum, my passion is working with individuals with autism and other special needs. My focus is helping those who work with this population across all ages and ability levels. For the last 20 years I have worked with teachers and administrators who support students with autism and other disabilities through professional development, consultation and support to schools. I also teach graduate students working in ABA and autism. I've authored books for elementary, adolescents and adults for building functional vocabulary through Linguisystems and am the co-author of Setting Up Classrooms For Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Building Independence. You can read more about me at my website: http://www.autismclassroomnews.com

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that teachers need the right tools to do their jobs effectively and that students should have access to curriculum that is both developmentally and chronologically appropriate for them. My background is in behavior analysis so I believe in clearly defined expectations for behavior and consistent and systematic reinforcement of correct responding. I also believe that with the right tools, training and support, teachers can make a significant difference in the life of any child.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was appointed to the Panel of Professional Advisors for the Autism Society in 2012.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have my M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology and am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D).

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My sister with autism is my inspiration to help teachers serve students on the spectrum as well as other students with disabilities.
