Description

Here is a great intuitive activity for your students to learn and practice determining the equation of a polynomial function from a graph, guided by notes and examples.

Students determine the polynomial of minimum degree in factored form from a graph using what they have learned about zeros of polynomials, multiplicity, repeated roots, y-intercepts, x- intercepts, and leading coefficients. Great for visual learners and to gain fluency in analytical thinking.

Included in this lesson:

  • Student Guided Notes - Notes include discussion on degree of a polynomial, effect of odd and even power, multiplicity, leading coefficients and examples.

  • 16 Task Cards:

# 1 - 8 depict graphs with both single, and repeated roots and with a leading coefficient of 1 or -1.

# 9 – 16 are similar to 1 – 8, but also include a point through which the graph passes. Students also determine the leading coefficient, a, of a polynomial of minimum degree represented by the graphs.
