Your Brain Is Like A Filing Cabinet - word retrieval strategies - this is a phrase I have often used since I started my speech career in 1976. I decided to put my words into picture form. Included in this packet is a poster, 2 pages of suggestions for younger students and 3 pages of suggestions for older students I have used over the years. I also shared with parents and other professionals. Understanding and using receptive/expressive language skills depends on how your “filing cabinet”, AKA the brain, is organized. It’s the ability to recall what you want to say when initiated or upon request. That’s an awful lot of file folder scaffolding layers to maintain in your brain! You file what is meaningful to you and the rest gets “archived” somewhere not always known!
