You have been named Human Resources Manager for a company that has 180 employees and no formal base pay system. What steps will you take to develop such a coordinated system?

Chapter 13 “Review and Application”

Give examples of individual incentives used by an organization in which you were employed. Then describe why those plans were successful and/or unsuccessful.

Questions:

Evaluate the total compensation package given to the current employees working in the steel industry at Qingbaijiang. In your evaluation you must state the extent to which the current steel employees are compensated adequately and rate the relative value of the various components of the compensation package to those currently facing layoff. Be specific and justify your answers.

In the upcoming economic restructuring, what are the new jobs that the redundant steel employees can be retrained to take up? From the perspective of the employer, what compensation components should be added in or taken out for these new jobs vis-à-vis the current compensation package given to the steel workers? In what ways would the employer’s perspective differ from that of the worker? Which of these two parties has a stronger bargaining position? Be specific and justify your answers.
