What educators are saying

My students love this book and having questions to go along with it and guide our discussions is great!

Description

This novel study/companion to Grace Lin's "The Year of the Dog" goes chapter by chapter, asking comprehension and vocabulary questions. The questions focus on the following comprehension skills:

-Making predictions

-Relating prior knowledge

-State or recognize main idea

-Recall facts and details

-Sequence elements of text

-Understand cause and effect relationships

-Demonstrates understanding of newly learned vocabulary

-Interpret figurative language (such as idioms and common expressions)

-Draw conclusions and make inferences

Some questions require the students to look up new words or concepts online as well as draw Chinese symbols from the book. A wonderful tool for encouraging students to think about how they may connect to a text, delve deeper into another culture, and encourages students to answer in complete sentences while sharing their own thoughts and opinions. It also includes the interview questions from the end of the book to be used as a homework assignment upon completion of the book.
