What educators are saying

We put our fourth grade classes together to work on the hamburger writing piece. It helped give students a visual on writing paragraphs. Great resource!
The visual nature and clear separation of components with this resource, makes it very easy to teach persuasive paragraph writing. The students love the hamburger theme and it helps with their retention of the learning.

Description

The Hamburger Paragraph is a time-tested strategy that's perfect for teaching students to formulate a good paragraph. It works well for both opinion writing and informative writing.

This resource includes:

  • Mini-posters: perfect for introducing the strategy to your students. The posters all have the same paragraph on the right-hand side. The setnence that corresponds with each poster's concept is underlined and printed in color. For example, the 2nd sentence on the “Tomato” poster is underlined as an example of what a detail sentence can look like.
  • "Project" student directions: this is optional, but I included it in case you'd like to use this packet's contents as a self-directed student project or writing center activity.
  • Graphic organizer: this is a one-page worksheet that instructs students to jot down a few words for each component of the hamburger paragraph.
  • One-page plain flipbook: designed for those who are limited on time, paper, or copies. It instructs students to use their completd graphic organizer as a guide for writing one complete sentence for each paragraph component.
  • Hamburger flipbook craftivity: Each hamburger component is printed on colored paper (or you can print components on plain paper and have students color them in). The components are then stacked like an actual hamburger. As with the one-page flipbook, students are to write one sentence on each section of the flipbook. Each component page covers six students.
  • Themed Writing Paper: this simple hamburger-themed paper is perfect for having students publish their final draft. There are two options: college rule and wide rule.
