Exit pass in PDF, Google Slides, Powerpoint and PING.

Slide Presentation in Google Slides, Powerpoint, PINGS and PDF.

The entire unit is printable.

Students should write in active voice and show, not tell, what is happening in the quickwrites. Dialogue can also add much to the voice in the story. Description is an important part of the activity.

Students begin writing for 15 minutes choosing a topic from four pages of suggestions. As the year progresses, the time increases by five-minute intervals and the writing goal expands from one-half a page in August to four pages in May.

No rubrics are included as this is writing for fun! Students will receive points for writing, but this is not a conventions lesson. Students will keep files of individual writings with the idea that they might expand the quickwrite into a portfolio piece at a later time.

Teachers may opt to use the writing topics in classroom notebooks as a group project.

Four pages of suggested writing prompts are included as well as an exit pass for the year long activity.

Slides are in the format of Google, Powerpoint, and PDF. Printable handouts are in the form of docx and pdf.

This lesson has been successful in my English 10 classroom for many years and is often listed in the "Ten Things You Must Continue To Do Next Year" survey at the end of the year.
