Description

This informational writing makes writing instruction FUN and EFFECTIVE. We have been searching for years for something that will actually teach our students to write - and we haven't been able to find it... SO WE MADE IT. This is everything you will need for 7 weeks of instruction to get your students writing informational paragraphs.

We made this for you because we ARE you. We wanted something engaging, simple, and effective. We no longer want to pull our hair out when we are teaching informative writing because it is a time we now enjoy. All of the materials are planned, organized, and low prep, which makes life so much easier for crazy busy teachers like us (and you).

We made this for your students because we know how much kids usually dislike writing. Not anymore! Our students genuinely love writing time because we've established a routine, made the topics kid-approved and interesting, and fun. Even our students have noticed their writing growth because of this unit!

This unit is a great follow-up to writing narratives - check out our unit by clicking here. However, it can also be used as a stand alone unit.

This includes everything you need to successfully teach informational writing for 20-30 minutes each day and has daily independent writing practice for your students. Here's what's in the files:

  • Daily scripted lesson plan for the teacher (120+ pages of lesson plans, anchor charts, and writing pages in one place)
  • Daily PowerPoint to guide the lesson (364 total slides)
  • Anchor charts
  • Daily writing prompts and writing pages
  • Group activities
  • NO STRESS way to plan your writing every day!

Unit Breakdown:

Week 1: Writers write to inform. Students practice writing sentences that are true and can be proven.

Week 2: Writers write to inform. Students write an informational paragraph that includes a topic, 3 details, and a conclusion.

Week 3: Writers grab the reader's attention. Students begin using a hook at the beginning of their paragraph. The focus this week is sound words.

Week 4: Writers grab the reader's attention. Students continue using a hook at the beginning of their paragraph. This week we shift to using questions and amazing facts.

Week 5: Writers write about real people. Students write informational paragraphs about real people they know.

Week 6: Writers write about real places. Students write informational paragraphs about real places they know.

Week 7: Writers write to tell how to do things. Students write how to paragraphs that include transition words.

This unit is best suited for teachers/students with foundational paragraph writing skills. If you're still working to establish that, we recommend you start here to build the foundational skills needed to be successful writers.
