Description
How to Write the Conclusion in Persuasive or Opinion Writing
I find that my students often run out of ideas and don't know how to write effective conclusions to end their essays. This lesson gives them four simple steps to follow when writing a conclusion for their persuasive essays. It guides students through each step with an example, and then it gives students the opportunity to practice on their own.
Although this lesson is for persuasive essays, I use the same concept with informational essays (without the persuasive elements).
The lesson includes:
1. PowerPoint Lesson
- The lesson is scaffolded; therefore, it builds upon itself. It starts by reviewing why it is important to write effective conclusions, introduces the steps needed to write an effective conclusion and offers students the opportunity to practice on their own with guided steps.
2. Interactive Notes (3 pages) with Visuals
This unit correlates with Common Core Standard W.4.1, W.5.1, W.6.1
