Wounded Knee Massacre: What Happened at Wounded Knee? Outstanding Analysis!

This resource is included in the U.S. Imperialism Unit Bundle, located here!

In this highly-engaging activity, students investigate six different sources to understand the conflict known as the Wounded Knee Massacre. Students (either individually or as a collaborative learning opportunity) are provided six different source documents to uncover several overarching questions. Students will understand what happened at the Standing Rock Reservation along Wounded Knee Creek, why the U.S. military was called to the area, the origin and influence of the "Ghost Dance" among the Lakota Sioux, how the U.S. leaders attempted the justify the encounter, and the horrific conditions of the tragedy itself. Once complete, students enter phase 2 of the activity and complete guided notes with the included PowerPoint; this allows students to get a firm understanding and to recap the event. Finally, a final prompt is included for students to take a stand on this tragedy.

A teacher key and a Google 1:1 version are included!
