Description

The Workplace Safety Case Studies is an easy reading print set with questions designed as an easy reading option for lower ability readers. The short case studies use simple language and entry level jobs to show students how to apply their developing work safety knowledge.

This resource will support your ESL, EFL, Work Skills and Vocational students to understand how to work safely. It is an easy to use, printable or digital resource that can be quickly implemented in a class to encourage research, problem solving, critical reading and thinking skills in high school and young adult students, as well as those preparing for a first work experience.

What to do:

•Introduce work health and safety concepts and explain risks and controls

•Identify common areas of work for young people and discuss problems with safety that can occur on work sites

•Read or share the case studies in pairs or small groups, or work through a single case study together as a whole class

•Share relevant work safety websites or other resources that are relevant for your area and the language and literacy level of your students

•Ask students to write their answers then draw their ideas before coming together as a whole group to review and reflect on learning

•Encourage students to record their sources in the ‘How do you know?’ simplified bibliography page
