Description

Conflict resolution is a valuable skill for the workplace and our personal lives. Prepare students for the challenges of leadership and working in a team by discussing conflict resolution strategies and when they might be appropriate. In this activity students will research avoiding, accommodating, competing, collaborating, and compromising as conflict resolution strategies. Next, students will provide a conflict resolution strategy recommendation for 10 scenarios. Last, students will use one scenario to craft a written advice column-style response recommending a strategy, explaining why the strategy was selected, providing a detailed plan for how to deal with the issue, and explanation for how their actions would affect all parties involved.

This activity can be completed within a variety of courses. This activity was designed to study conflict resolution as a component of professionalism, leadership, and teamwork. The purpose of this activity set is to develop necessary skills for success in the workplace. This activity includes an answer key for the research activity and grading rubric for the advice column activity. Please note that there is NO answer key for the recommendation activity, instead use the students rationales to help you facilitate a discussion and assess student mastery.
