Description
Save time with this YEAR LONG research based vocabulary activities booklet bundle designed to support your students in developing their vocabulary in Stage 1, 2 and 3! The activities included encourage students to make sense of a word through visuals (drawing), morphology, connections between words and their context by discussing and using the word in various ways. Revision activities incorporated into the back of the booklet also provides opportunities to review previous words and tick off learnt words in the 'vocabulary overview' page in the front of the book.
This resource includes:
- 13 Booklets
- 432 Words
- 8 Revision Activities within each booklet
- Word Of The Day/Words Of The Week Whiteboard Cut Out
Each page includes 2 words with definitions, parts of speech tick boxes, spaces to draw and use the words in context.
This resource can be used daily (Monday - Thursday) with Friday for revision, or twice a week (to use across 2 years).
There are 8 revision activities included:
Mystery Word: Students choose a word from their newly learned vocabulary. They must identify if it is a verb, noun or adjective, how many syllables it has and then create 4 clues to describe the word. They share these with either the class or a partner who must try to guess!
Fill in sentence: Students write sentences where the vocab word would make sense in context. They leave that word out, and read their 'fill in sentence' to a partner or the class and they must use their knowledge of the definitions learned to see which word would fit. E.g. "The dress was a beautiful, ______ colour" (vermilion).
Synonym Word Web: Students write their newly learned word on one of the webs, and fill in the spaces with synonyms for that word. E.g. catastrophic, disastrous, outrageous...
2 Tales and a Truth: Students pick a word. They must write 3 definitions, two incorrect (tales) and one correct (truth). They share the word, tales and truth to a friend or group, who must identify the 'truth' or correct definition.
Photograph Vocab: Students draw a picture that includes a range of their words. E.g. if they had catastrophic, escapade, vermilion, they may draw some disaster where someone was on a journey in a red coloured vehicle. They can write the words used in their drawing in the frame, and share their drawing and how they incorporated their newly learned words into their artwork.
Word Builder: provide students with words that are base words without prefixes or suffixes. They must then rewrite that word with a prefix or suffix. E.g. if the word was 'pretentious' they could write 'unpretentious' in prefix, and 'pretentiously' in suffix.
Create a Cross Word: Students fill in the grid with words from their learning (very lightly in pencil). They must 'intersect' words, like in a crossword. They must then write numbers on the first letter of each word, and write clues in the 'across' 'down' part of the booklet to correspond to each word. E.g. If 'vermilion' was 1. and down, they may write the clue 'a bright red colour'. Once all words and clues have been written. The blank boxes around the words should be coloured in (black works best). They must then erase all of the pencil, so the boxes for the cross word are left blank. Students swap and read the clues to fill in the blank squares.
Vocab Story: students write a story using as many words from their learning as possible. IT is best to do this near the end of the booklet, so they have lots of words to incorporate into their story!
