What educators are saying

Strip diagrams are really hard for 3rd grade, but this resource was great practice for them to work on what strip diagrams will look like!
This helped my students so much. Strip diagrams are always difficult, but this made a big difference for them. Thanks!

Description

Over 55 Word Problems using Strip Diagrams as pictorial models for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. Perfect for 4th grade but easily adapted for 3rd and 5th grade.

Concepts include:

*TEKS 4.5A

* tape diagrams

* model drawing

* partitive division

* quotative division

* missing factor

* missing product

* problem types

* multi-step problems and one-step problems

There are many possibilities for using these cards as the students progress throughout the year. You can use 1-10 Addition Cards or make a mixture of 1-10 Addition and Subtraction Cards. You can make a mixture of 1-15 Multiplication and Division Cards or a mixture of 1-15 with 4 operations and one-step or multi-step problems. You can adjust the assignment as the need for mastery increases throughout the year.

The strip diagrams offer a helpful pictorial model for understanding the structure of the word problem. I have added smaller task cards without the pictorial models for students to practice writing and solving equations which is also an important part of this standard.

These cards carefully construct all the aspects of TEK 4.5A – Readiness Standard - Represent multi-step problems involving the four operations with whole numbers using strip diagrams and equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity.
