What educators are saying

My students with autism struggle with word problems, but completing one word problem per day has really grown their skills!
This resource is divided by 2nd math standards so it is easy to work on a certain skill or do a general review. The problems can be single or multiple step and provide a great chance for students to explain their processing.

Description

Do your students struggle with word problems? Fix that by solving a word problem a day! Word Problem of the Day Notebook includes 170 different word problems based on 2nd Grade Common Core Math Standards. To use this product, have each student bring in a composition notebook and select a cover to put on their notebook. On each page of the notebook, cut out the word problem strip and glue it at the top of each page. Then below on the notebook page, students can show and explain their thinking for solving the word problem. I oftentimes challenge my students to show multiple ways to solve a problem on the page. For example, on two-digit addition problems students could solve by using algorithm, base ten blocks, number line, etc. After everyone has solved the word problem, I ask my students to share how they solved the problem. This opens up great discussions on how you can solve problems in multiple ways as well as challenging students to explain their thinking. This product also includes 4 different dividers for each standard to use to organize these word problems in a binder.

Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving lengths that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as drawings of rulers) and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
