Description

Connecting American Sign Language (ASL) to writing activities encourages letter knowledge practice and supports emergent writing and reading skills. The integration of finger-spelling enhances vocabulary development, along with letter and sound identification by engaging children in hands on interaction with building and highlighting words.

This is the bundle of the Word Family ASL Cards for Short Vowels, which were designed to support young emergent readers. These phonograms or word chunks provide predictable patterns using the short vowel sounds within words.

Identifying patterns are important when learning to read. Since the developing brain is a pattern seeking organ, children will begin to recognize word patterns, which makes it easier when sounding out words.

In addition, we’ve integrating American Sign Language finger spelling with the word families to enhance student’s ability to learn words by sight. This package is aligned with common core and includes 3 short /e/ word families with over 32 words.

Included are Kid Friendly Objectives to use in learning centers, mini phonics whole group lessons, for independent practice, or as an intervention in reading skills. We also provide tips and tricks to incorporate into your classroom for lots of fun!!
