What educators are saying

I really like all the slides from this seller. They are informative and provide practice opportunities.
My 4th grade students get a lot out of these activities. I pair it with a search and find in their library book to find really good descriptive words to share with the class. This is one of my favorite lessons to do in the media center!

    Description

This word choice bundle has everything you need to keep your students engaged as you teach them how to use interesting, exact words when they revise their writing. These activities stress the importance of choosing "just the right word" and they focus on the correct way to use the thesaurus. These revision activities make focusing on word choice fun and easy! Students love the activities while teachers love the convenience of these no-prep resources that can be used year after year! These activities can be used for test prep, review, or introduction of this important writing trait.

Several years ago, I noticed that some of my students were eager to use a thesaurus, but then often used a "pick and plunk" method, where they randomly picked a word from the listing, and then plunked it in the sentence! The result was sentences like "One zesty day last July...". I created these word choice activities to be minilessons that targeted the word choice writing trait.

I recommend starting with the PowerPoint. It is a step-by-step presentation that teaches students about using exact, interesting words in their writing. Then, continue studying word choice by completing the follow-up activities.
