Description
This bundle puts together three works by Maya Angelou:
1. "Still I Rise" (1978) (theme, rhyme scheme, simile/metaphor)
2. "Life doesn't frighten me" (1978) (theme, rhythm/meter, illustration)
3. "On the Pulse of Morning" (1993) (anthropomorphism, personification, allusion (literary, historical, Biblical), devices of repetition/parallelism)
The lessons on these works closely analyze the poetic mechanics and devices of these poems, as well as their themes as these relate to Black American life and history, and more generally. They are appropriate for students at a variety of levels of sophistication. All include exercises and assessments. All include video of the poet reciting her works, along with other supporting short videos.
