What educators are saying

This was a challenge and proved to take a long time to complete (3rd grade). The end product was worth it! It was an incredible display.
Great resource for studying the work for Georgia O'Keefe. My students were very enthusiastic about this art project. I have a lot of students who are into horses and the western look!

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Can I be honest with you? Art history can sometimes be boring for kids. There, I said it. Teaching about artists and cultures doesn’t have to be a snoozer, though!

I’ve designed 3 different ways for students to attempt this Georgia O’Keeffe art project. All will engage kids to create! Choose which way works best for your classes:

  • Roll a dice game to add randomness to your student’s artwork
  • “You Pick” art worksheet for kids to choose their own elements
  • Digital spinner wheels, so kids can randomly pick elements and you can integrate technology in the art room
  • Printable dice template in case you have no dice
  • Step-by-step picture directions to guide students through the art process
  • Drawing practice worksheet, for kids who want to sketch out their ideas
  • How to Draw a Cow Skull directed drawing worksheet, to guide students to draw their own skull
  • Georgia O’Keeffe Artist biography about the life and work of this American modern painter, so you don’t need to research
  • “Big Ideas” reflection worksheet where students write about their art process
  • Self-assessment worksheet so kids can think about how they performed during the project
  • Art grading rubric which assesses expectations, craftsmanship, work habits, creativity, and clean-up
  • 8 “I CAN” Statements aligned to the Studio Habits of Mind to use during instruction or post on your bulletin board
  • 4 Art exit tickets with quick, thought-provoking prompts
  • Art history coloring pages to keep kids inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s cow skull paintings outside of the art room

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

These art projects are so fantastic! They work for multiple age and ability levels and they always turn out so wonderful. I'm using them as the core of our art portfolio building this year. Thank you so much!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My class loved this art project! You've included everything possible to make every step go as smoothly as possible. It had just the right amount of guidance but also challenged my students. Thank you so much!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My fifth grade students really enjoyed this O'Keeffe project and they look awesome hanging in our hallway! They had fun shaking dice to see what designs they would draw and then paint for the background….For a finishing touch, the students punched holes with a paper punch at the bottom of the artwork and used yarn pieces to tie a colorful fringe. Thanks for this creative lesson. I will definitely want to use it again with future students!
