Are you looking for some research activities on the 2017 inspirational women for National Women of History month in March? Then look no further!
This year’s theme is all about “Honoring Trailblazing Women in Labor and Business” and there are 13 amazing women who have been selected!
Product includes:
• Rebecca Anderson (1940-Present) Community and Economic Development Organizer
• Barbara Hackman Franklin (1940-Present) Former Secretary of Commerce
• Alexis Herman (1047-Present) Former Secretary of Labor
• Lilly Ledbetter (1938-Present) Equal Pay Activist
• Kate Mullany (1845-1916) Organized First All-Female Labor Union
• Lucy Gonzalez Parsons (c.1953-1942) Labor Organizer and Socialist Leader
• Barbara “Dusty” Roads (1928-Present) Flight Attendant’s Union Leader
• Andra Rush (1952-Present) Founder/ CEO, -Rush Group
• Nina Vaca (1971–Present) Founder/President, -Pinnacle Group
• Yvonne Walker (1959–Present) President, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000
• Maggie Lena Walker (1864-1934) Businesswoman and Community Banking Leader
• Addie L. Wyatt (1924-2012) Labor Union Leader and Civil Rights Activist
• Norma Yaeger (1930–Present) Entrepreneur, Stockbroker, and Business Pioneer
This resource is really easy to use in your classroom: there are 13 sheets which have the name and picture of each of the women mentioned above, with some research prompts to guide students. Students can then undertake their own research (at home or in lessons) to find out more about these women and then reflect on why they think they are so inspirational and have received this achievement. I also provide you with some ideas for taking these research activities further in your classroom. So go on, inspire your girls and educate your young boys on the Power of Women!
These would look great displayed on a bulletin board or stapled into a booklet for students to keep!
