Women Artists Bundle

I worry that some art teachers don’t include women artists in their curriculum because they’re “not famous enough.” However, you can make a change! When you teach about women artists, those students will appreciate the art, and when they grow up they will expect to see art by women in museums and galleries. You can make a positive impact for historic and contemporary women artists beginning in your classroom!

In 2019, 45.5% of American artists were women, as reported by the National Endowment for the Arts. However, only 12.5% of artists in major museums are women according to a study lead by Chad Topaz of Williams College. If about half of contemporary artists are women, then our art curriculum should reflect the population. We can certainly do better than the museums and galleries.

This Women Artists bundle includes a variety of lesson plans, art history lectures, step-by-step art making tutorials, and community coloring pages. Most of the lessons are for elementary and middle school students, and they are perfect to use as part of an inclusive K-12 art curriculum.
