This unit of celebrating Deaf awareness, about William Ellsworth “Dummy” Hoy, is a perfect fit for the American Sign Language student and a great tool for teaching Deaf culture studies.


This study unit includes a PowerPoint biography of “Dummy” Hoy that highlights his early life and beginnings, overcoming challenges of hearing loss to gain recognition in major league baseball, the development of umpire hand signals, professional achievements, and tributes.
