What Is Art: An Interactive Lesson

What better way than to start the school year off than engage students with an interactive collage presentation on art that includes music, sound effects, animation and opportunities for them to examine art in its various forms. Students not only will be able to relate traditional modes of art with creativity but examples contained are food, fashion, landscape, architecture and decorating. It's the perfect way to look into career fields in the arts and students get an understanding that much of what they see around them enlisted the help of someone who thinks creatively.

As an example of some on the multimedia included, the first slide opens with classical music and in the frame is an animated gift of abstract art. The slide presented with architecture shows a scene of a hand-drawn house, the stars are twinkling at night and crickets are chirping as a football bounces from the house. Three other animated gifs are presented, as well as a video w/music of student art samples. If your students are creating multimedia projects, this presentation is a great way to expose them to the different elements to compose a mixed media presentation.

Throughout the presentation, students have opportunities to read what each character is saying and to conclude, students are challenged to observe their environment and objects in order to become more aware of how integrated art is in their lives.
