Description

These weekly French listening prompts are no prep and collaborative, just project and play when you decide that it is listening time. Suitable for Middle school French immersion or extended French, this activity has half a year's worth of listening and discussions prompts that even a non-French speaking substitute teacher can handle! The focus here is on listening skills and topics, but as you know, speaking and listening go hand in hand.

Prompts are engaging, relevant and interesting. They encourage self reflection and fair collaborative discussions with their peers. The teacher guide has tips, references and suggestions to handle the topics.

This package contains

  • slide deck is 22 slides long, It has 20 pages and most pages have two prompts. Most activities are between 10-20 minutes in length. All videos are less than 7 minutes in length.
  • a teacher page with suggestions and tips

But what exactly will they be listening to?

  • each other
  • selected songs
  • heritage minute segments
  • little news clips
  • podcast trailers

Themes that are covered:

  • la santé mentale
  • la crise écologique
  • la culture franco- canadienne
  • la culture autochtone
  • la culture populaire française
  • l’écoute active (le langage corporel)

Suggested learner level:

I would suggest this for grade 6-8 in immersion or extended French.

Depending on the level, older grades like 11 & 12 in core French can also participate in this activity.

Ways to use this:

As a teacher, I would circulate and make sure that everyone is on task. Be aware of when your students have stopped coming up with new ideas and set time limits.

  • classroom warm-up
  • supply teacher lesson
  • group/ pair collaboration

Meets All Overall Ontario French curriculum expectations in listening:

  • A1. Listening to Understand
  • A2. Listening to Interact
  • A3 Intercultural Understanding

Why this works

  • There are several themes that are presented, you can follow the flow as is or change the sequence of the activities so that it follows the themes you have organized in your class planning.
  • This is created with several different prompts per the activity, so that everyone is not doing the same thing at the same time, you can change this up.
  • You can always extend the learning with a writing or reading activity pertaining to the topic.
  • Links are chosen because they are secure, but I will be updating the product if they are not, you will always get access to updated versions.
  • I suggest you use this weekly so that it becomes a predictable part of your classroom routine that your students will appreciate and trust.
  • this is fully in French but there are 2 activities that require a bit of English- French translation work.
