What educators are saying

What a fabulous resource! I am an Aussie teacher and loved learning about the artists and then using the resources as inspiration.

Description

This art lesson introduces your students to Artist Wayne Thiebaud. Thiebaud is associated with the pop art movement because of his interest in objects of mass culture. The lesson is perfect for 1st through 4th. Students will have the opportunity to explore directed line drawing and working with color, line, texture and pattern. The lesson will invite the students to create a beautiful unique art piece using collage techniques and inspired by Mr. Thiebaud. This lesson focuses on a kid favorite – cupcakes!

You can use these lessons in the following ways:

  • 30-45 minute sub plans
  • a simple design that helps to build a student’s confidence in drawing

Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.
Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.
Analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts (e.g., number of sides and vertices/“corners”) and other attributes (e.g., having sides of equal length).
