Description
This fun apple or fall song (rhyme, poem) for carpet time is one of my students’ favorites! It works great for an apple or fall thematic unit. This is a great activity for teaching students to recognize quantities to 5 and to practice counting and one to one correspondence. A black and white version is included so that students can create their own song to sing about as a math center activity or a extension activity to take home! I also like to bring these materials to the math center.
Set Up: Print and laminate sentence strips, apples, and student 5 frames. Print apple counters or use mini erasers, red puff balls, or other counters.
Play: Set the sentence strips out on a pocket chart with the apple cut outs at the top. Sing the rhyme then call on a student to remove an apple from the chart. Change the number by putting the number card over the number 5 Continue singing until no apples are left. Students can work along on their own 5 frame mats or can hold up the correct number of fingers. When there are 0 apples left, sing “Way up high in an apple tree, no more apples left for me.
