What educators are saying

Webquests are always an interesting way to further students collection of information. This had helpful tips and was easy to understand. Thanks for your time in producing this resource.
I loved this activity! However, we discovered that there is very little reported information on our local watershed which made answering the questions difficult, so we looked at more populated, major areas.

Description

This assignment uses the EPA's How is My Waterway website at https://mywaterway.epa.gov/. Students use the EPA website to research the health of the watershed they live in and the watershed of the location where they would like to move after high school.

This product requires no prep and can be used immediately with both electronic and pdf versions provided.

I typically use this assignment as a follow up to a class discussion about watersheds, but could also be used as an introductory assignment. Many watersheds in the United States are "impaired" and students are surprised to see the poor health of their own watershed. This provides the foundation for future discussions on conservation and protecting freshwater resources.
