WHMIS (GHS) & HHPS - Cards & Quiz

An editable card set and oral-visual quiz to assess students’ knowledge of GHS or WHMIS (2015) and HHPS Symbols. Suitable for US and Canadian WHMIS. NEW: also included is a paper and pencil version of the quiz, to help with easy differentiation in your classroom.

This product is designed for students with low literacy skills, but can effectively be used with students of all literacy levels - also suitable for ESL/ELL.

The WHMIS and HHPS Symbol Cards are great on their own as a matching game or review activity. Each symbol, name, and description is its own slide in a powerpoint file. I suggest printing them 4 or 6 to a page before separating and laminating.

The oral-visual quiz (a word document) was created to assess students with very low reading and/or writing skills. I prefer to complete it one student at a time (it takes only a few minutes), though my LRT found it easier to complete in small groups (each student had their own set of cards to work with). The teacher reads the questions out loud, and the students answer orally and/or select the best card(s) to answer the question. The quiz document acts as a tracking sheet to record scores and observations. Answers are included with each quiz question.

The cards and quiz are both created to be visually simple and easy to edit.

UPDATE: I have added in an editable paper and pencil version of the quiz to make it easy to differentiate while still covering the same materials. This allow for three levels of differentiation: oral-visual quiz (with cards), paper and pencil quiz (with cards), and paper and pencil quiz (without cards).
