What educators are saying

I have used this on 4 students so far! It is an easy way to keep my vowel targets organized. Great format with the test and retest data.
This was a wonderful screener for vowels! It came in handy when I needed to check all vowels. It gave enough options for each vowel.

Description

Use this short and long vowel screening and informal assessment (including diphthongs) tool to help you identify and target which vowels must be taught and which are mastered. This informal speech and language assessment contains all long and short vowels and diphthongs. I created this assessment tool to help monitor and adjust vowel goals for students with apraxia.

  • Quick Vowel Screen: one word per vowel
  • Deep Vowel Screen: two words per vowel
  • Diphthong Assessment: two words per diphthong

Visuals are included for each screen as well as each informal assessment of the individual vowels. Visuals are all in color. To save your ink, download the pdf to your computer or Ipad instead of printing out the visuals for each assessment.

Ten words containing the targeted vowel are included in each informal assessment.

The informal assessment areas are:

  • Long A
  • Long E
  • Long I
  • Long O
  • Long U
  • Short A
  • Short E
  • Short I
  • Short O
  • Short U

There is also a rubric included to track your progress for all the vowels. Use this to track a group of students for your SLO (Student Learning Objectives) goal this year or use for early intervention.

A graph is included to track progress. This is perfect for your IEP or Response to Intervention meetings! This will be perfect for your progress monitoring data.

Instead, you will find me crafting or eating kiwi and strawberries, while swinging in my hammock dreaming about ways I can decorate my therapy room, or add to my sensory corner. Lately, I have been dabbling with body positivity on instagram. It's always good to let other speechies know that we are all in this together, things are not always peachie, but we will make it.
