What educators are saying

I used this resource with my 5th graders for an introduction of volume of rectangular prisms. Not only did my students love it (and understood) I did too! I will be utilizing this again next year!! Thank you.
This is a great resource to have. I use it every year, in small group but mostly for practice prior to testing.

Description

Geometric measurement is a large part of the fifth grade mathematics curriculum. Specifically, students must develop an understanding of volume and understand how to find the volume of figures.

This ten-page packet introduces students to the concept of volume, using unit cubes to calculate the volume of a rectangular prism, and multiplying dimensions (length, width, and height) of a rectangular prism to find a figure's volume.

While this packet can be used to introduce concepts of volume, it also can be used for review purposes or as remedial support for students who need additional practice with the concept.

Aligned with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, this packet not only introduces students to concepts, but includes scaffolded practice exercises that students can complete independently (answer key included).

The packet aligns with the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

-CCSS.Math.Content.5.MD.C.3 Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.
-CCSS.Math.Content.5.MD.C.4 Measure volumes by counting unit cubes, using cubic cm, cubic in, cubic ft, and improvised units.
-CCSS.Math.Content.5.MD.C.5 Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume.
-CCSS.Math.Content.5.MD.C.5b Apply the formulas V = l × w × h and V = b × h for rectangular prisms to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with whole-number edge lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems.

Please take some time to download a preview of this packet. I hope your students benefit from working with this product! Thank you so much for your purchase.
