Description

Valentine’s Day Fun for Middle Schoolers!

This packet of ten critical thinking activities includes three logic puzzles, one cryptogram, one word search based on the cryptogram, one grid matching puzzle, one grid drawing sheet, one 3 x 3 heart puzzle, a leap/ ladder words puzzle, and a writing activity using an infographic.

This product has been updated with the digital overlay feature, perfect to use with distance or virtual learning! It can be assigned to students in a Google Classroom. You can either use the digital overlay already created, or create your own! For more information, read here!

In the first logic puzzle, the user solves for 5 kids, their types of Valentines, and the treat they gave. (This is the more difficult logic puzzle.)

In the second logic puzzle, the user solves for three brothers, their wives, the flowers they get each year, and how long they have been married. (This is the easier logic puzzle.)

The third puzzle is about the types of gifts given in 2015. (Factual!)

The cryptogram uses 13 words associated with Valentine’s Day and a quote.

The word search has the 13 words from the cryptogram plus 7 flowers.

The 3 x 3 puzzle is matching different patterned hearts.

In Leap Words, students change one word at a time to leap from one Valentine's Day word to another.

To incorporate Common Core activities into Valentine’s Day, an original Valentine’s Day infographic plus a worksheet on using the infographic are included. The infographic contains data about spending statistics for Valentine’s Day.

The puzzles vary in difficulty and are ready to print, copy, and use- no other prep necessary! An answer key and a few tips are included. These puzzles are great to use as a filler activity, with a substitute, or after a test is given, and yet they will still challenge your students’ minds. I hope you enjoy these activities!
