Valentine's Day Algebra: Systems of Equations

Create a few Valentine’s Day smiles with this solving systems of equations practice. Pick your method. Elimination or Substitution – find options for both. Valentine themed answer messages spice up regular practice and make grading a snap!

The Holiday Fun:
Students solve 15 random systems (out of 26 linear systems) before receiving one of the 6 Valentine cards. Students use answers to decode the Valentine’s hidden message. I enjoy hand selecting the recipient of the message, matching the message to the student’s personality. Since the Valentine is addressed “To My Wonderful Teacher,” students are essentially sending you, the teacher, the Valentine when they turn in their work. “Oh what thoughtful students I have!”

The Content:
Substitution, Basic Elimination, or Advanced Elimination – find three versions of the 26 systems practice page. All three versions have the same solutions. Therefore, you can easily use a combination of versions and meet students’ personal needs without any hiccup in the activity (if you want).
