Valentine's Day ABC's: Personalized Class Script & 4 Sets of Cards/Signs
- PDF
Description
Looking for a simple Valentine's Day performance and/or game that includes everyone and makes them feel special?
This resource is loosely based on the children's picture book, L is for Love: A Heartfelt Alphabet by Greg Paprocki. I used some of the words he assigned to the letters of the alphabet, but I changed others and wrote a sentence to go with each letter/word. I wanted to create a short script that you could personalize so that every student (or even teacher) is highlighted when it is read aloud. Each letter can be assigned to a person and the cards can be used as signs, puppets, or even for games (more information below). I also removed the overly "romantic" element of Valentine's Day and made it all about caring for our class.
The following table of contents and suggestions are also in the packet:
- pg. 3-5...Class script
- pg. 6-31...Alphabet cards
- pg. 32-57...Word cards
- pg. 59-83...Alphabet heart signs/puppets
- pg. 84-109...Word heart signs/puppets
Suggestions for how to use these materials:
- Use the class script for a small performance where you assign a
student’s name to each letter. Add teachers or others if needed. The
student holds up the alphabet/word heart sign, or they can tape it
to a popsicle stick to make it into a puppet. The teacher reads the
script but perhaps the whole class says the beginning line per letter,
such as “A is for adore!” Feel free to change the sentences in the
script as needed.
- Use the alphabet cards and word cards as a matching game. See if
the students can match “A” to “Adore”. You can also use the cards
as a spelling or memory game. Perhaps the students come up with
other words that start with that letter. You can even use the cards in
a calendar and flip over one new letter/word per day for (most of)
February.
- Use the alphabet and word heart signs/puppets for similar games.
