What educators are saying

I love how big the angles are on the pages. The ones in our math book are so small and hard to measure with the book binding. This allowed students to move their paper around easily to measure.
Used this to help my students with measuring angles. Great resource to give them extra practice with using protractors.

What are teachers saying about types of angles & measuring angles packet?

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I love anything by Sally Witherspoon!  The lesson plan is clear, the short teaching time that is straight to the point, then gradual release is fabulous.  My students love working in partners before they do their work independently. ” -Wendolyn B.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This was perfect way to cover angle measurements! It gave examples so that we were able to do several problems together and then also give students individual practice. Will be using over and over in the years to come!” -Jamie A.
  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “I love using Sally’s lesson whenever I have a sub! The directions are clear and the lesson planning is already done for me! And the kids love the challenge work and the partner work!” -TpT Buyer

How can I use this ‘Measuring Angles with a Protractor’ lesson?

  • Supplement your core curriculum
  • Reteach or remediation unit
  • Small group math intervention
  • Tutoring or homeschool
  • Test-prep

These 4th grade angles worksheets ask students to

  • First, identify the type of angle and estimate it in degrees.  It will help them check their answers for reasonableness when they accidentally choose the supplement on the protractor (trust me, this will happen A LOT).
  • Measure BIG angles with a protractor.  SIZE MATTERS.  If the angle is much, much smaller than the protractor, kids will have a hard time. So big, bold, giant angles are provided to build some confidence first.
  • Use a protractor to draw their own angles.
  • Measure smaller angles with a protractor.  Because unfortunately, this is how they are most likely to be assessed.
  • Identify types of angles and measure angles with a protractor inside 2D shapes.  This will be a challenge for kids, so is included just for those who need something extra!

What does Sally’s “gradual release model” entail?

  • Sally’s lessons follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” format.  A math concept is introduced whole group, students then practice with a partner, and finish with independent work time.  This deliberate scaffolding keeps students from feeling defeated or frustrated!
  • Sally’s packets also build slowly in difficulty.  We meet students where they are, regardless of level.  As students gain confidence, the problems get progressively harder.  Not all students will complete all problems and that is by design!
  • Each packet finishes with a “Challenge Page” for anyone who needs something extra!  Multiple pages of practice are included in every lesson to avoid early finishers.

In addition to the deliberate scaffolding in these 4th grade angles worksheets, the instructional guide is jam-packed with teaching hacks and best practices for measuring angles with a protractor and identifying types of angles.  There is also a “Misconceptions” section that allows you to be one step ahead of mistakes students are most likely to make!

These 4th grade angles worksheets are common core aligned to 4.MD.5 (types of angles ) and 4.MD.6 (measuring angles with a protractor).
