User - friendly Model United Nations (Model UN) Rules of Procedure and process.

For two decades, students in my Honors International Relations courses organized Model United Nations conferences. Over the years the South Kingstown High School Model UN Conference grew to be, at one point, the largest one - day, high school Model UN conference in New England. At its height, SKMUN included over 400 students from 25 different schools, from 3 states, involved in 12 different committees. The conference included over 170 students from South Kingstown HS. It was held on a Saturday, students had to pay to attend, and they received no extra credit for attending. They took part because they learned a lot, had lots of fun, met many new people and were inspired by the 40 seniors in the two Honors International courses who conducted the whole exercise.

The organization of the SK Model UN program was done for 19 years by SKHS students in my 2 International Relations classes . The students in the IR classes served in the following capacities: Secretary General, Undersecretaries, Chairs, Treasurer, Public Relations, Liaisons to attending schools, Webmaster, Recruiters of Adult Guest Speakers, etc. etc. The organization for the conference starts in September and reaches its zenith with conference day, which is usually in late March. A considerable task for the IR students is to research and develop the Background Papers which are sent out to all delegates, serving as a fairly comprehensive review of the topics to be debated on conference day These papers are developed by groups of approximately 5 students, and are only ready for print after three drafts.

For most students this was the first, or one of the first, MUN conferences they attended. Thus, the process and rules must be user friendly. There were many reasons the conference was so popular that it drew 400 participants, including 170 from our school, but one the secrets to our success were the SK MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE RULES OF PROCEDURE which are offered to you in this product.
