Description

This two Powerpoints and Word document. The first Powerpoint will help you teach students about how to turn DRY (boring, useless) dialogue/direct speech into USEFUL (interesting, purposeful) dialogue/direct speech in your narratives/stories. It is inspired by the Sevens Steps to Writing Success's 'Dynamic Dialogue' focus. The second Powerpoint will help students to punctuate speech.

The resource also comes with a Word document providing three cloze/fill in missing spaces passages to assist students' development of useful dialogue, at three differentiated levels: beginner, developed and advanced.

This resource is suitable for students in elementary, primary, middle and high school.

Lessons using this Powerpoint are on my YouTube channel. The lessons encourage students to post short pieces of their writing in the YouTube comments for feedback from me. I will leave this function available in the foreseeable future although it is not guaranteed in the purchasing of this Powerpoint.

The opening slides of the Powerpoint contain an example of DRY dialogue, with an opportunity to discuss punctuation and paragraphing of dialogue. A demonstration of this can be seen in a YouTube video on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJMxdItNwM1Jg1YhSah0jbA

These resources could be used as a once-off lesson or over multiple lessons.
