What educators are saying

This was a great resource that I was able to use with my K/1st grade STEAM club. The students were really engaged and loved the robot.
This was an easy introduction to coding and my students loved it! I look forward to using it every year.

Description

Everything you need to get started with coding. Before breaking out the robots, teach students the foundations of coding. Students learn the basics of directional coding and write their own code! No robots needed!

New to Coding?

No worries! Coding can be intimidating, but you don't have to have a background in computer science to teach coding. This resource is designed to be so simple a sub could use it. Get started with coding today! Perfect activity for Hour of Code.

Connect to Read Aloud: Unplugged by Steve Antony

Students learn best through story. Unplugged by Steve Antony is a fantastic book to introduce basic concepts of coding to students.

Coding Process:

Students learn the logic and thinking that goes into writing codes using Directional Coding. They learn 5 vocabulary words: Programmer, Code, Command, Unplugged, and Sequence.

Students connect coding and sequencing to retelling stories. After students write their code they use it to retell the story with their partner. At the end, students reflect on what they learned using the included reflection pages.
