Why use a unit plan newsletter?

Before I got into teaching, I spent five years in social media and event marketing -- so it felt only natural to apply many of the same skills to my work in the high school English classroom. Basically, I asked myself: If I was a student (or a parent), what would be helpful to know about this unit before we jumped in for the next three weeks of work? Like -- could we have a sort of quick "here's what's up in English class" guide that was both visually attractive and informative that students and families could stick on their fridge or in each new section of their 3 ring binder?

Short answer: you betcha.

My students LOVE it when we start each unit off with a brightly colored unit newsletter that includes unit-long essential questions, transfer skills, historical factoids, key project due dates, and points to consider. And color coding each new unit's handout makes it easy for them to keep notes organized behind the visually appealing unit overview. New unit, new color. And all the dates, deadlines, and details that they'll be expected to master through the unit are right there in one handy sheet for regular points of reference throughout the ongoing weeks of study.

Even better for teachers with digital connection abilities? Parents LOVE getting these templates in their email, as it helps them know what's going on in the classroom and provides them with plenty of fodder for dinner table conversation. Eliminates confusion with a regular chain of "here's what's happening" emails to prevent missed deadlines and families feeling left out of the loop come interim grades, report cards, parent-teacher conferences, and back-to-school nights.

Thanks again for checking out my store! And happy planning.
