Unit 2 - Growth Mindset for Little Ones (from the Kindness Classroom: A Social Emotional Yearlong Curriculum)

This SEL curriculum program focuses on exploring Growth Mindset concepts and strategies in the primary grades.

My goal is to provide easy-to-use teacher scripts, lessons and resources to help teachers introduce children to the concept of Growth Mindset and how this way of thinking can impact both emotional and academic progress.

A Growth Mindset can have a huge impact on the classroom learning environment, and change how students face daily challenges. I've personally seen the positive impact in my own classroom, and believe it's one of the most valuable tools to give students as they face various challenges in their lives!

This is a collection of engaging, community-building activities to give students the exposure and practice ESSENTIAL social skills needed to create a successful classroom environment.

♥ What’s included in UNIT 2 - Exploring Growth Mindset

→ Storybook : Little Penguin Learns To Fly: This is an original read-aloud story for your class library! The main character is a little penguin who decides he wants to fly. He asks several friends who can already fly if they will help him, but instead of helping, they are rather discouraging. Still, Little Penguin perseveres. Finally, another friend encourages him to change his mindset and fly in his own special way, using his own talents. Little Penguin reviews what he has learned by writing in his diary at the end of the story. This can be printed, or shared as an ebook with your students.

→ There are five VISUAL lesson plans included which will walk you through each lesson topic making it very easy to implement. Each lesson has at least 5 or more different activities, and includes a teacher script to help guide your lesson. This saves teachers valuable time and lets them focus on the conversation, concepts, and ideas of their students during these valuable discussions.

About The Lessons

Each of the 5 lessons has five or more different activities. The lesson map has both a description of the activity, and picture of the activity (or finished result). Group discussions for all 5 lessons include a teacher script to guide the conversation, with question and possible answers included.

After completing the 25+ activities in the unit, students will learn to:

♦ recognize the difference between fixed mindset and growth mindset

♦ realize that mistakes are okay, and we can learn from them

♦ recognize and use the power of YET in personal ways

♦ discuss concepts of perseverance, determination, practice, and patience

♦ learn to persevere through a STEM challenge
