Step 1 - UNIT 1: Discover

Unit 1 is called Discover, where students use data to categorize overall career satisfaction, articulate personal areas of interest, visually represent career goals, and define actionable steps to accomplish them. Purchase includes:

• Use data to categorize overall career satisfaction
• Identify the percentage of Americans that are unhappy in their jobs
• Articulate personal areas of interest, and begin applying them to career planning

2. Lesson 2: What Does Your Future Look Like? (1 hour; PDF)

• Compare and contrast the work experiences of personal acquaintances
• Visually represent future career-related goals, dreams, and ambitions (vision board project; more in-depth than our simple vision board project)
• Includes super easy to use ready made Canva template to accompany this lesson (available individually here)

3. Lesson 3: Goal Setting 101 (TWO 30 minute lessons; PDF lesson and 8 slide powerpoint guide)

• Define and communicate future career-related goals, dreams, and ambitions
• Identify common themes in the career goals of others
• Set goals/action steps to accomplish their vision
• Support others in the goal setting process

4. Monthly Goal Setting Worksheet Pack (PDF; to be used throughout the school year to keep students on track in meeting their goals; available individually here)

Step 2 - How much does your vision cost? webquest

How much does your dream lifestyle really cost? What salary do you need to support this lifestyle? What careers offer that salary? What education do you need? What expenses are associated with being an adult? In this 90 minute webquest, students will be guided through the process of getting real to figure out just how much the lifestyle they envision actually costs.

Step 3 - UNIT 2: Why

This second unit is called Why, designed to help your students identify underlying values, interests, and motivations using the 5 Why process. Purchase includes:

1. Lesson 4: Intro to the 5 Whys (1 hour)

• Summarize the 5 whys process
• Apply the 5 whys process to daily life
• Identify underlying beliefs and motivations

2. Lesson 5: Applying the 5 Whys (1 hour)

• Begin to apply underlying beliefs and motivations to the career exploration process
• Identify important aspects of the career planning process
• Explore careers using varied digital resources

3. 5 Whys Flowchart Worksheet (1 page PDF; used in lesson 4)

Both lesson plans are written in 5E format and aligned with the Common Core, totaling approximately 2 hours of instruction. Resources are provided in PDF format.

Unit 3 is called You, designed to help your students explore careers, hone in on fields of interest, and understand what different STEM careers actually entail. Purchase includes:

3. Monthly career interest and self-directed learning reflection pack - use as a monthly check-in to help students chart a path to a successful future!

Resources are provided in PDF format, and can be used as the third step within the Career Planning Bootcamp Curriculum or as a stand-alone mini unit. These components will take approximately three 90 minute class periods.
