Ukulele: A Method for the Modern Classroom

The concept for this book arose out of the need for a relatively comprehensive resource for publicly funded schools. Understanding that any given classroom has various learners, I found it essential to provide challenging material in ways that embrace different learning types. In addition, technology is becoming increasingly accessible, and I believe that student learning will be augmented with technology as a tool. That is way many of the exercises have qr-codes that will lead students to video demonstrations of said exercises. The videos can also be accessed at simonarruda.com should the student not have an appropriate device. This book is a resource developed not only for the student but also for the teacher. As an educator, I have attempted to implement strategies to serve those needs. Several of them are presented here. It is the expectation that concepts will be expanded upon in the classroom. However, I attempted to make this resource as accessible as possible so that the avid learner can cover the material independently should there be extended periods of absence from music class. There are several pieces marked out for assessments or evaluations should the teacher wish to use them. This comes in the form of ready-made and easy-to-use rubrics. Of course, whatever assessment tools teachers wish to use is up to their discretion as teaching professionals. I have added an appendix at the end of this book with chord exercises, scales, chord-melody solos and chords. I included these at the end if more challenging exercises are needed and if the student is seeking more difficult performance pieces. This book is a labour of love, and I sincerely hope both students and teachers find value in its pages. Some lined pages have been included for note-taking and to optimize the layout of the book.
