UNITED STATES: DISCOVERING AMERICA BUNDLE for Grades 1-2

The Discovering America Bundle for Grades 1-2 has everything you need to explore the landmarks, symbols, and early history of America. This huge 90+ page bundle includes SEVEN cross-curricular activities, plus THREE activity books, a colorful Symbols of America photo poster, AND the bonus resource: Teaching with TOOBS®: USA Super Pack.

Book and Poster Resources Included:

• America: From Apple Pie to the National Zoo introduces more than two dozen symbols and landmarks that are uniquely American and features traceable vocabulary words to boost retention.
• Snapshots of America focuses on the national and cultural symbols of America and includes maps, national symbols, American slang phrases, and a crossword puzzle review.
• Washington or Lincoln? is a great way to teach your students about the lives of two of our most famous presidents. The interactive cut-and-glue format will keep them engaged as they compare and contrast Washington and Lincoln across several categories, including birthplace, early life, nicknames, and more. Washington or Lincoln? also includes a review activity to boost comprehension.
• Symbols of America is an 11 x 17 inch poster that highlights six American symbols with colorful photographs.

Activities Included:

• Eagle or Bison? is a cut-and-glue Venn diagram that compares and contrasts characteristics of the bald eagle and American bison.
• Mapping North America explores America’s neighbors on the continent of North America, as student use a map key and compass to complete the map.
• Mixed-Up States is a 12-part puzzle of a United States map, with each state labeled.
• My Favorite Symbol develops writing skills, as students choose one of three symbols—Statue of Liberty, bald eagle, or American bison—to research and write about.
• Name that Landmark features six iconic landmarks, with a cut-and-glue format that challenges students to match pictures of landmarks with their descriptions.
• Searching for States is a mapping activity that highlights the ten most-populous states.
• The White House focuses on fun facts about the president’s home, with a cut-and-glue format.

Bonus Resource: TEACHING WITH TOOBS®: USA SUPER PACK

This 22-page pack is designed to complement the USA TOOBS® miniatures, but it can also be used without the figures. The set includes a photo matching mat, a roll-and-cover addition game, 4-part pocket puzzles, three spelling puzzles, a mystery word scramble, and a set of 6-part matching cards.

What kinds of resources does Let’s Get Real offer?

All of my K-5 books, printables, posters, and games focus on content-area literacy—building the specialized vocabulary of science and social studies—because having an extensive vocabulary is not only a top predictor of reading success, it also has a huge impact on overall school success and standardized testing scores. My science materials target topics and standards outlined in the NGSS and TEKS. In social studies, I concentrate on multicultural literacy, providing resources that develop a knowledge of and appreciation for the diverse cultures in our global society.

How can I see what you offer or know when you’ve added new materials?

Click on the star to the right of this description (under my pic) OR click on my store link (above), then click on the star at the top of the page to follow Let’s Get Real. You’ll be the first to know about new materials, sales, and freebies. To view the resources by science/social studies topics, look to the left on the store page, under the heading Custom Categories.

What are TPT credits and how do I get them?

Every time you provide feedback for a purchase, TPT gives you 1 credit for each dollar you’ve spent. After you’ve used (and hopefully loved!) a resource, hover on your picture at the top of the page and open the “My Account” tab. Click on your “My Purchases” category. You should see a list of your purchases with a “Provide Feedback” button for each one. Just click the button and you’ll be taken to a page where you can rate the product and leave a comment for me.
